The first Sindhi who was awarded Padma Bhushan in 1963 was Mr. Santu Shahani who had designed the Automatic guns and various types of ammunition without any foreign help or technology. After the 1962 Indo-China war, his services were appreciated. He died on 26th October 1965 in an air crash.
Another Sindhi was Dr. Lakhumal H. Hiranandani an E.N.T. Specialist and Surgeon, who is the first member of American Society, has been awarded Padma Bhushan on 26th January 1972.

Prof. Naraindas Ratanmal Malkani was the third Sindhi who was given Padma Bhushan on 26th January 1973 for his extra-ordinary work in the field of Harijan Services and some other worthy causes in the interest of Public.
