Talk of Sindhis in the early years of
Hindi cinema, and names of great actors
like Gope, Hari Shivdasani immediately
come to your mind, as does the unforgettable,
Saigal-like voice of C H Atma, the playback
singer.

In the next generation, (the 1960s to
be precise) came Sadhna. Her beautiful
face, smile and hairstyle lit up the
silver screen in the same way that Madhubala
had done in the 1950s. Sadhna was to
1960s Bollywood, what Aishwarya Rai
is to Bollywood today – the standard
of feminine beauty, fashion, and style.
Along with her, just a little later
came her younger sister Babita, who
also made her mark in some box office
hits – especially with Jeetendra
as the hero opposite her.
In recent years, we have come to enjoy
and admire the comedy talents of Asrani,
who is another famous star of the film
SHOLAY (1975) along with Sanjeev Kumar,
Amitabh Bachchan, Dharmendra, Amjad
Khan & Heman Malini.
Asrani sahib redefined and gave a whole
new personality to comedy on the Hindi
film screen after the era of Johnny
Walker & Mehmood.
