Shonali Nagrani: Miss India International 2003
Shonali
Nagrani, this year's 2003 -- Sunsilk Femina Miss India
International, clinched the first runner-up position at
the Miss International 2003 contest, held in Tokyo on
October 8, 2003.
The 21-year-old Delhi girl was placed after Miss Venezuela
Goizeder Azua, who was crowned Miss International.
Shonali edged past Miss Finland Suvi Paivikki Hartlin,
who finished second runner-up, in the final round of the
pageant.
Shonali also joins the long list of Femina Miss Indias,
who are daughters of defence officers and have gone on
to win international contests.
Shonali is the first Indian to hold a Miss International
title.
Shonali
brims with the confidence of being prepared for anything
— with the help from Ritu Kumar, who has designed
her national costume and Indian-wear; Satya Paul, who
has designed the evening gowns and
swimming costumes; Ranna Gill, who has taken care of her
Western casual-wear; Samantha Kocchar Sapru, who has looked
after her make-up and hair training; Finesse, which has
equipped her with shoes for the pageant; and Club 1 at
the Crown Plaza Surya, which has contributed to the fitness
and gym training.
Exuberant at clinching the first runner-up position, Shonali
is nonetheless disappointed at not being able to win the
crown.for the present, Shonali plans to pursue a master's
degree in history and work for the empowerment of women
as women form the foundation of every family.
