Indian fashion designer Tarun Tahilani started Indias first designer boutique Ensemble in 1987, but he soon realised that he wanted to concentrate on design and not on marketting and building a business. This is where his sister Tina Tahilani-Parikh came in. After a stint as an investment banker in U.S. Tins returned to India in 1990 and she took over Ensemble.

According to Tina Tahilani-Parikh all stores need to grow into chains if they want to survive. She believes that there is room for more designer boutiques in the market and that even today. Someone entering the designer retail market will make good money.
