Indira Vaswani was born in Mirpurkhas (Sindh) on 21st August 1936. Teaching has been her first love and she believes in Gandhian values of being. Her most coveted achievement is being awarded the National Award for Teachers 1994, presented by the President of India on 5th September 1995.

She wrote many books and stories which were published in journals like 'Samakaleen' by Sahitya Akademi 'Bharatiya Kahiniya' by Gyan Peeth and in 'Varshiki'. Her stories have been translated in Hindi, Urdu, Rajasthani, Tamil, Telegu, Malayalam, Bengali and Assamese. She has also been the member of Gujrat Sahitya Academy, Gujrat Pathiya Pustak, and Examination Board of Sindhi subject.
