Dr.
Choithram Pratabrai Gidwani [1869-1957]
A
renowned freedom fighter and one o fthe tall political
figures of Sindh.
Passed L.C.P.S.
examination and entered government service. In
1915 he left government job to join politics.
Started a
Brahamcharya Ashram in Hyderabad. Under the influence
of Gandhiji he became votary of non-violent movement.
In 1920 he
was elected President of Sindh Congress, and remained
at that post till 1947.
In 1938 he
was elected as Member of Sind Assembly.
On the issue
of resettlement of Sindhis in India, he had differences
with Nehru and Patel, which resulted in his resignation
from Congress Party.
He was elected
to Lok Sabha from Thane constituency in 1952 on
the ticket of Samajwadi Party and raised his voice
in Parliament on rehabilitation of Hindus displaced
from Pakisthan.
Dr. Gidwani
passed away on 12th Sept. 1957 at Bombay.
