Kapoor's
remniscences of Sindhi patients
Dr
O P Kapoor, who has been treating Sindhis for
the last 40 years, describes Sindhis as unusual
patients. After the partition, many Sindhis live
as non-resident Indians (NRIs) in different countries
like the United States of America, England, Spain,
Japan, Hong Kong, Singapore etc and Sindhis in
India are at high places as well. Sindhis are
possibly the most hard working people in India,
according to Dr Kapoor. Sindhis enjoy food, music
and sex. Nearly 100 per cent Sindhis offer regular
prayers every day.
As a doctor who
knows more about Sindhis and who treats Sindhis
for several years, Dr Kapoor has this to say about
Sindhi patients.
As Sindhis work
most of the time, seldom do Sindhis get time to
have exercise, which in turn can affect their
health. All work and no relaxation can also affect
a person's health and Sindhis also not an exception
to this.
The excessive work
predisposes Sindhis to certain diseases such as
ischaemic heart disease, hypertension etc. Most
of them will never miss their good lunch and have
a hearty dinner and even on the days of fasting,
which many of them do once a week, the caloric
content of the fruits and milk, which they consume
is very high. Many genetically transmitted diseases
are common in Sindhis. These include ischaemic
heart disease, diabetes, hypertension, thaalassaemia
minor, G6PD deficiency, obesity and possibly gross
osteo-arthritis
