The Jaslok Hospital
and Research Center was founded in the
early
seventies. Seth Lokoomal Chanrai, a philanthropist
and a visionary, was the man behind this marvel
of medical science. He envisaged an ultra-modern,
centrally located medical center where under one
roof people of every class, creed and race would
equally receive the benefits of advanced health
care. He wanted the people to benefit from expert
advice, sophisticated hospital equipment and comprehensive
courses of treatment. He also felt the need for
a fulltime research center to keep abreast if
not ahead of the rapid leaps of progress in medical
sciences.
The Jaslok Hospital
and Research Center was inaugurated by the erstwhile
Prime Minister Indira Gandhi on 6th July, 1973.
