The Sindhi Hindu marriage was like a carnival. Five days
before the wedding-day, Dholak and Shehnai players were
invited and seated on Navar laced cots. Then the musicians
would play music intermittently, thus creating a melodious
ambience. On the day of the wedding procession, the musicians
were led by dancing girls, who would be singing Laadas,
either in Punjabi or in Sindhi.
The groom was seated on a horse, sent
by the bride's family, wearing a silver Mukut (crown).
In the memory of the grandfather and grandmother, coins
would be showered on him, till the wedding hall is reached.
While it will pass the Havelis, people will greet them
with wishes and blessings. Then the Baraat will be received
with sweets and rose water. After this, the wedding would
take place. These processions were called Janj and formed
an integral part of the weddings.
