Master
Chander was born in 1907, took to singing at the age
of 12, in an era when singing was looked upon with disdain.
He made the profession look respectable and also used as
a vehicle for conveying different messages to society at
different times. He sang songs in praise of Hindu-Muslim
Unity and after partition, he toured the Country, to instill
courage and confidence amongst the Sindhis, arousing them
to regain their past glory.
Not
only this, Chander also entered the Bombay Film Industry
and was the hero as also the playback singer for 'Maut Ka
Toofan' He has given playbacks for Hindi Movies and even
today one can hear the popular bhajan "Ur Ja Hans Akela'
on the Vivid Bharati. Master Chander has cut 3,000 discs
and was paid the highest royality. His electrifying melody
arouse his audience to such a peak that they would throw
their money an ornaments.
Master
Chander, who died on November 1984, is a legend in SINDHI
Vocal Folk Music.
