When
in1977 postgraduate studies in music were started for the
first time in government colleges of Rajasthan, it was for
Mrs. Chandra Kala Sharma to have the honour of becoming
the first head of Postgraduate department of music in Meera
Girls College, Udaipur. Music for Chandrakala is a matter
of long family tradition for several generations. She is
the daughter of the renowned Sindhi musician and musicologist
Pandit Brahmanand Goswami of Jaipur.
Prevailed
heredity and family environment gave her that depth and
subtlety in music in childhood which generally remains unattainable
after several years of hard practice. Even at an early age
of 13 years in 1946 her performance before an audience of
several thousands drew great acclaim for her in All India
Music Conference at Gaya where great veterans like Pandit
Onkar Nath Thakur, Ustad Bade Ghulam Ali Khan were present.
