She had a taste for music from childhood. Shanti learned
light and classical music from various masters. As a young
girl she gave background music for film "Nausherwan-e-Adil".
In 1952, she met the legendary Ghazal Singer, Begum Akhtar
who completely changed her style of singing and personality.
Shanti sang with Akhtar in many National Programmes of AIR
and "Sangeet Samelans". In 1961, she went with Akhtar on
a concert tour of Pakistan. A few months before her death
in 1974, the Begum told her Concert audience at Baroda,
"if you want to hear my music after my death, hear it through
Shanti's singing".
Shanti has been broadcasting from All India Radio since
1947. She also performed on T.V. She sings Thumri, Dadra
and Ghazal in pure Begum Akhtar style. Besides, she has
sung many Sindhi songs and Ghazals. She has been a Professor
of light classical music. She has performed in prestigious
all India Conferences. She composed music of the theme song
of film "Sidhartha" and acted in it too.
