Prabhu Wafa.....                                             Back

Words fail one when one speak about this personality. 86 year old ‘Wafa’ will easily go down as one of the most prolific poets that Sindhis ever produced. A poet who has written geets, ghazals and poems, his work has found flavour with one and all. This in fact has been a noteworthy feature of his works. There is a lyrical quality to his works and can be sung with great ease. His works have been rendered by well known Sindhi singers like Mahesh Chander, Ghansham Vaswani and Kajal Chandiramani. This poet credits his excellence to one Kishinchand Bewas who was second only to Shah, Sachal and Sami the three erstwhile pillars of Sindhi poetry. Prabhu Wafa’s works remind one of Kishinchand Bewas and Prabhu Wafa has kept his legacy alive. Prabhu Wafa has also written books notable amongst them being ‘Toon Sagar Maan Lehar’ (1993), ‘Aaeena Ain Aks’ (1994), ’Sijhu Lahan TeAa’ (2000). Prabhu Wafa’s another notable contribution to Sindhi poetry has been his use of ‘Panjkada’, verse of five lines akin to ‘dohas. He has presented his works on TV and Sammelans across the country, a Sahitya Academy Award Winner and happens to be one of those rare instances who has drawn praise from all flanks. He has contributed quite a bit to the shows of Aseen Sindhi and most of the title tracks of these shows have been rendered by Prabhu Wafa and is also respected as a guide and mentor.
