Formerly many Sindhis were in Sindh in Pakistan. As a result of the partition a huge number of Muslims came to Sindh. From August 15, 1947 onwards Karachi turned to be the capital of business houses owned by the Muslims. The Sindh Minorities Association on July 28, 1947 decided to present a memorandum to Jinnah, the Governor General designate of Pakistan. The Hindu nominated corporations were Hyderabad, Jacodabad, Shikarpur, Tando Adam, Shahadpur, Dadu and Rohri.
The Hindus of Sindh decided to go to different places as a consequence of the riots that took place in Hyderabad and Karachi.

The Sindh Government was also in a piquant situation because of the influx of the Muslims into Sindh while Sindh was already populated by the Sindhis.
The Indian High Commissioner in Pakistan stated that about 8,00,000 Hindus and Sikhs of Sindh left for India and plans were through to evacuate 4,00,000 more people in addition to the evacuations that will follow suit for each forthcoming month.

Almost 12,00,000 Sindhis reached India in a year's time. Though Sindhis had to seek different places other than Sindh, at present, there are Sindhis who are residing and doing business in Pakistan. According to the 1981 Census there are 10,38,611 Hindus in the Hyderabad Division of Sindh; 2,00,00 Hindus in the Sukkur Division of the Sindh, and 42,466 Hindus in the Karachi Division of Sindh.

The population of these three divisions constitutes for 85 per cent of Sindhis' total Hindu population.
