YEAR 1896

FIRST PRESS: Diwan Kundanmal Manghasing Lalwani started the Kesari Press in Hyderabad in October.

FIRST BAR-AT-LAW: Shri Kundanmal Alumal Bhojwani was the first Sindhi to have become bar-at-law.

PREMIER PRESS: Shri Kanwalsing Pohumal Malkani and Master Vasanmal Malkani put up the press in partnership in Hyderabad.

FIRST POLITICAL CONFERENCE: The first political conference in Sind was held at Dinshaw Vachha Hall at Karachi from 19th April to 2nd May under the Presidentship of Shri Vishindas Nihalchand. Several delegates from all over Sind, Members of the Legislative Council and Zamindars of Sind participated in it.

FIRST VISIT OF MRS. ANNIE BESANT: On 8th December, Mrs. Annie besant visited Sind for the first time and delivered lectures at Karachi from 9th to 18th December.

FIRST PRIVATE COMPANY: J.B.Advani's was the first private company set up in Sind. It was established by Mr. Kanwalsing Pohumal Malkani and Master Vasanmal Malkani. It was named after their brother-in-law, late Mr. Jodhasing Basantsing Advani.

PLAGUE: In December 1896 Karachi was visited by plague. It spread in several parts of the city like, Kiamari, Kharo Dar, Liari quarters, Gadi Khato and Saddar. Mr. Tahilram Khemchand and Seth Harchandrai Vishindas opened a make-shift hospital, helping and serving free meals. All those desirous of leaving Karachi were provided with free sea passage by Seth Harchandrai.

MAHAN TARIKA: The play written by Diwan Lilaram Vatanmal, was directed by Mr. Kanwalsing Malkani and presented by the D.J.Sind College Amateur Dramatic Society, Karachi. JOTE: Shri Parmanand Mewaram started this fortnightly, whose issues were eagerly awaited by young and old.

MIRAN JE SAHBIA JO AHVAL: Shri Udharam Chandumal wrote this historical book.
