YEAR 1921


NON-COOPERATION MOVEMENT 1921: As many as eight editors of the nationalist Sindhi daily the 'Hindu' were convicted and sentenced to varying terms of imprisonment one after another form one to three years and fined under Sec. 124-A of the I.P.C. for seditious' writings. In case of no other newspaper in India were so many of their editors jailed during the 1921 movement. They were: Maharaj Vishnu Sharma (3 years), shri Jairamdas Daulatram(2 years), Shri Ghansham J. Shivdasani (2 years), Dr. Chotiram Gidwani (1 year and a fine of Rs. 500/-), Maharaj Lokram Sharma (1 ½ years), Shri Jhamatmal Lakhasing (1 ½ years) Shri Chotiram Valecha (1 year) and Shri Hiranand Karamchand (1year).

SHAKTI: Seth Khemchand Balani, who was editing this weekly Sindhi newspaper was also arrested and jailed. Shri Mansing Chhuharmal, Shri Gurmukhdas Tejumal and Swami Shivdas who took up the mantle of the editorship of the paper were also jailed one after another during the non Co-operation Movement of 1921.

SIND STUDENTS' CONVENTION: The second Convention of Sind Students was called specially in February 1921 at Karachi. Shri Vithalbhai Patel president over the Convention, calling upon the students to boycott schools and colleges and participate in the national movement. As a result, 150 out of 250 students of the D.J. Sind college left the college not even waiting for the annual examination, which was hardly a month away. Amongst those who gave up their studies for good were Shri Hirachand Karamchand. Shri Shewakram Karamchand, Dr. Chotiram T. Valecha, Shri Mevandram Vishindas, Shri Alim T. Gidwani, Shri Kesumal Jhangiani, Shri Ram B. Motwani, Shri Nihchaldas Himatsingh and others. Shri Assanand Mamtora of the New High School also jumped into the movement.

PREMI PATANG: The play written and directed by Shri lilaram Makhijani was presented by the young Citizens' Dramatic Society, Hyderabad.

VADO SINDHI GRAMMAR: Mr. Mirza Qalich Beg wrote this book on morals.

SHAH CLASSICAL DICTIONARY: Mr. Mirza Qalich Beg compiled this dictionary.

IKHLAQ TAALIM: Shri Deumal Mahboobani wrote this book on morals

SHAH HUSSAIN: Biogroaphy of the Punjabi Sufi poet written by Shri Atmaram Metharam.

SUFI SAGORA: Biographies of Persian and Sindhi Sufis were written by Shri Lilaram Premchand and Shri Jethmal Prsram.

QADEEM SIND: Mr. Mirza Qalich Beg translated this historical book from Persian.

JIWAN VED: Dr. Pritamdas' translation of Bengali book was published by the Sind Brahmo Samaj, Hyderabad.

BHARAT BHUSHAN: This collection of biographies of the Hindu great men and women was written and published by Shri Fatehchand Menghraj.
