BEDIL,
BEKAS & SHAH INAYAT
Bedil & Bekas
Sachal’s immediate disciples were the saints
Bedil and Bekas, a father and some team from Rohri,
known as the twin mystics for their linke-mindedness
in sufi thought. The two sufis are buried at the
same place and have a huge following among both
Muslims and Hindus. On the eve of their Urs, pilgrims
traditionally come to their shrine accompanied
by a beloved, often a man who is well versed in
this particular Sufi tradition. Their followers
believe that, "All human beings are in the
shadow of God." They fall in love with a
beautiful face and many feel that they cannot
approach God until they first have an object of
love in this world who can lead them to the object
of their devotion in the next.
From "The
Call of the Sufi" by Hassan Mujtaba Newsline
August 1996.
Sufi Shah Inayat Shaheed
Shah Shaheed transcended all human barriers. He
reached heights of spirituality and FANAIYAT in
his life time. It is in recognition of his mysticism
that thousands throng his shrine-Muslims or non
Muslims, rich or poor. Together they sit on straw
mats on the floor and eat and drink from the same
vessels in true sufi tradition. Every 17th of
lunar month there is a samaa (a form of meditation
among the sufis of major tradition) at the dargah,
and every year followers come from all over the
world to attend the URS held from the 16th to
the 19th of SAFAR.
