Otaak, which is a must for a well to do Sindhi family, is the first and foremost place - a room -- of a Sindhi house, what is generally known today as a drawing room and no one was allowed to come inside the Sindhi house without the consent of the head of the family he who use to sit in this first and foremost place.

Otaak was the Shaan - glory - of Sindhis where huge photographs of the God and Godmen, elderly persons of the family, some beautiful sceneries, library or some notable things were part of the decoration of the Otaak, a meeting place for the elders, where discussions on topics and problems would take place at mukhi's or chieftain place and where even domestic quarrels were settled and also gossips. Sometimes amusements in the lack of radio or gramophone till 1930.
A marvelous well decorated table with chairs or murdhas, sofas around with centrally Hookah or Chilam (big earthenware) was the permanent feature.
