BERI-A-WARA-SAINT
(1865-1963)
He was born in the village Harnampur
of district Multan. His birth name was Thakur.
Since his mother died in his infancy, he was brought
up by his grandmother. Soon he was fed up with
the worldly affairs. Since he was proficient in
Hindi and Sanskrit, he left the house and started
keeping a vigil in the Jungle. After some time
he went to Hyderabad, where one of his disciples
constructed a 'Boat house' for him while was always
anchored to the river in Gidu Bunder. Soon he
became popular as 'Beri-a-Wara saint' (The saint
of the House Boat).
After the partition the Saint settled in the Sion
Colony (Bombay) and started teaching instrumental
music to small girls. He also taught them Geeta
and Sukhmani. He believed in morning walks and
fresh air. He died on 23rd May 1963, at the ripe
age of 98 years.
