SWAMI DHARAMDAS (1854-1947)

Swami Dharamdas was born in the village Thorha in Qambar taluka of Larkana district, in the house of Bhai Motumal. His father was in a prosperous business, but he died before Swami Dharamdas was born. This made it compulsory for the Swami to have an experience of business for which he learnt the Bhaibandi language. Side by side, he used to perform satsang, where he used to explain that there is no salvation without a Guru. Once he went to attend a relative's marriage where Sai Nebhuram was doing Bhagat. Swami Dharamdas became unconscious while listening to the Bhagat. Sai Nebhuram was a disciple of Sai Vasan Shah who was himself a Riddhi-Siddhi Pursh : and he looked at Swami Dharamdas with compassionate eyes. Sai Vasan Shah told Sai Nebhuram that this child will be a great darvesh.

When Swami Dharamdas was 24 years old, his elder brother Karamchaand who was to get married died just before his marriage. This created a feeling of renunciation in Swami Dharamdas's mind and he left everything and went for a vigil in to the jungle. He kept a vigil for fourteen months. His mother used to feed him once a day. After that, he came back to Rohri and stayed with Sai Vasan Shah for six months. Thereafter Sai Vasan Shah ordered him to move among the people and spread the name of God (Sat Naam). In the month of May 1947 his health gave way and on the morning of 4th June 1947 he acquired 'Anaadi Akhand Atam Swaroop'.
