Bilaspur: The total strength of this City is 6 lakhs which includes 30,000 Sindhis (almost 5%). There are nearly 10 Sindhi Pockets (Bastis) in the City e.g. Sant Kanwar Ram Nagar, Sindhi Colony, Sarkhanda, Bandhwa Pada, Torwanaka, Adrash Colony, Rishi Colony, Azadnagar, Chakarbhatta Camp etc. They have atleast their own 10 Sindhi Dharmasalas namely Sindhi Samaj Dh (Gol Bazar), Fatavadas Dh. (Sindhi Colony), Puj Panchayat Bhavan (Sant Kanwar Ram Nagar, Sindhi Colony, which manages Sindhi School till V Std.) Sindhi Bhavan in Tarva Naka (built at the cost of % 2 crore) etc. The Sindhis of this City have also built many Temples & Halls e.g. those of Radha-swamy, Dhan Nirankari & Anandpur religious organizations. Other marvelous achievement of Sindhis here is that the main business activities of the city are under the control of Sindhis though they comprise of only 5% of the total population. Hence they command a good respect among the local people also for their all noble activities.
They have 12 different Panchayats (including Bharatiya Sindhi Sabha) in their different localities and a Central Sindhi Panchayat whose President is Shri Bhimandas Dayalani and Secretary is Shri Manohar Khatwani. Every organization is doing social activities in its respective field. All Sindhi organizations celebrate all main festivals together particularly Chetichand Mela with a long procession and all of them close their shops for half a day. They were however persuaded to close their shops / officers for the whole day.
