RANI KARNAA
Rani Karnaa is one of our foremost exponents of Kathak.
Her
creative repertoire finds expression in integrated
compositions of Sahitya, Sangeets and Nritya. Based
on the verses of saint poet Surdasa and Gurudev
Rabindranath - choreographed in Kathak, her presentations
of 'Navrasamalika' and 'Ananda Dhara' have recived
wide acclaim.
Rani
Karnaa learnt Odissi with passion under the guidance
of Guru Kelu Charan Mahapatra. She has contributed
immensely in the rediscovery and enrichment of that
ancient tradition.
Widely
traveled in India and abroad, she divides her time
in performance and teaching assignments. Presently
Rani Karnaa heads the DANCE ACADEMY "SAMSKRITIKI
SHREYASKAR" in Calcutta.
Much
honoured, one can list president's Gold Medal in
1955 to Order of the Queen on Laos in 1964 and Vijay
Ratna in 1960. She has been nominated a senior fellow
in the field of kathak Dance by the Deptt. of Culture,
the ministry of Human Resource and Development,
Govt. of India.
