Bhai Pratap Dialdas, who thought
of the displaced Sindhis as the aftermath
of partition, requested Maharaja of Kutch
asked for land and he got 18,000 acres, where
homeland for the Sindhis was planned; the
Sindhu Resettlement Corporation Ltd was formed.
A new township of Gandhidham and Adipur came
in existence.
With
the assistance from Mahatma Gandhi, Sardar
Vallabhai Patel, Pandit Jawarlal Nehru, Acharya
J B Kripalani, the then President of Indian
National Congress and first Chairman of Sindhu
Resettlement Corporation Ltd, Bhai Pratap
Dialdas, the soul behind this great missionary
work gave new shape to the town.
Owing
to the Sindhu Resettlement Corporation Ltd's
work the township's - Gandhidham and Adipur
- work progressed. The Government of India
leased out 2600 acres of land to the corporation
for the development and grant of sub-lease
to the shareholders of the corporation.
The
residential, commercial and industrial houses,
which were built were demarcated for allotment
to the shareholders of the corporation. The
SRC built over 35,000 houses for the Sindhis,
who were shareholders of the corporation.
Many co-operative housing societies were also
being built. There is good transport, communication
