The city's population is 60,000 out of which nearly
60% are Sindhis. It has 3 dharamshalas such as Swami
Brahamkhatri Samaj Dh., & Akhilbharat Lad Lohana
Sindhi Panchayat Dh. The city has 3 sindhi Temples
viz., those of Jhulelal, Lalsaheb & Devi Mata.
All Sindhis speak in their language at their home
and among themselves in most of local people there
know Sindhi. The city has 2 high schools with compulsory
Sindhi as one of the subjects (Maitrikanya Vidayalaya
for girls & Maitri Maha Vidyalaya for boys).
The Sindhi language is also tought in first and
second year in Tolani arts college by prof. Vimla
Sadarangani. Chetichand and the birth of the township
by Shri Bhai Pratab Dialdas in February are celebrated
on a grand scale and the shops remain closed on
these occasions. There are 2 Sindhi organizations
such as ward 2(b) Panchayat & B.S.S. who do
number of social activities such as running of Nari
Shala by Shri Gulab Gurnani, Alokpathi Hospital
by others as well as taking active part in celebrations
of important annual festivals. Sadhu Hiranand Navalrai
Academy, Swamy Lilashah's Ashram and Kutiya, Indian
Institute of Sindhology, Gandhi Memorial & Tolani
foundation are main worth seeing places. The prominent
Sindhi personalities Shri Hundraj Dukhayal &
Shri Hari Dilgir are staying there.
