The city's population is 1 1/4 lac including 350
Sindhi families. They mostly speak in Sindhi. 95%
are in business with no Sindhi school. There are
2 Panchayats, Sindhi Association whose president
is Shri Atmaram J. Sahtai & Lad (lower Sindh)
Panchayat whose president is Shri Lilaram N., both
panchayats work in Union. They do various social
activities such as saving Sindhi girls from married
ages in other religious communities etc. they celebrate
important festivals and take out processions and
have Priti Bhojan together particularly on Chetichand,
Gurunanak Jayanti, Mahashivratri and Ganpati festivals.
They meet on happy and unhappy occasions and help
poor ladies in their marriages. In case of marriages
of girls coming there from other cities, the total
expenses of marriages are fully met by boy's side
only which is rare in Sindhi community. The others
could aearn a good lesson from them. They also give
prizes to efficient students and help poor students
financially. The city has one Swamy Lilashah Dharamshala,
2 Temples (Mahadev and Jhulelal). 3 Sindhis are
Municipal Councillors and they are doing good social
and city's work. A branch of B.S.S was opened there
on the lines of one as on Ratlam so that cultural
and social ctivities of the Sindhis in the city
could be further increased.
