AND GROWTH
The Ashram owes its origin to a miracle performed
by Yogiraj Sadguru Acharya Swami Bankhandiji Maharaj
whose spiritual power cured the son of Dady Shet,
a Parsi Philanthropist, of an incurable disease. In
gratitude for the Divine Grace, Dady Shet, made a
donation of a sprawling plot of land to the Yogiraj
for founding the Ashram in Bombay. The lighting of
'Dhooni' (perpetual sacred flameh yogic powers of
swami Bankhandiji Maharaj, in 1818 marked the establishment
of the Ashram. The flame is still aglow radiating
its message its message of socio-religious and cultural
salvation of mankind.
Five years later, in 1823, the Yogiraj founded Shri
Sadhubella Tirath in Sukkur as well as Shri Sadhubela
Ashram in Bombay which subsequently attracted thousands
of followers from all corners of the country to form
the nucleus for a religious, socio-cultural renaissance
which made rapid strides during the time of Acharya
Shri 108 Swami Harinamdasji Maharaj the 8th Mahant
in the line of succession, from 1893 to 1949. At the
time of India's partition, the property of ShriSadhubella
Tirth at Sukkur alone was officially valued at Rs.
35 million.After the partition the main center of
the Ashram activity was shifted to Bombay by the 9th
Mahant Rajarshi Acharya Shri Swami Ganeshdasji Maharaj,
who has been leading the Ashram into a countrywide
network of a large number of branches and autonomous
trusts, active in spheres of medical treatment, education
and even agriculture.
After the partition the main center of the Ashram
activity was shifted to Bombay by the 9th Mahant Rajarshi
Acharya Shri Swami Ganeshdasji Maharaj, who has been
leading the Ashram into a countrywide network of a
large number of branches and autonomous trusts, active
in spheres of medical treatment, education and even
