of more than 50,000 Sindhis staying in 50 co-operative
exclusive Sindhi societies and other areas. In 1955,
there were only 5,000 Sindhis here, who stayed in
just 25 blocks. Thane (W) has 25,000 Sindhis.
The corporators here are Veena Bhatia and Laxman
Tikwani, who look after the Thane city affairs.
Among the prominent Sindhi citizens in this area
are Dr. Satram Makhija, Gulab Gulrajani, Prakash
Kotwani, Laxmandas Mukli and Holaram Hans.
In the early days, most of the Sindhis were bakers
but now, they can be found in every profession.
Majority of them are businessmen engaged mostly
in construction or clothing business.
