Meaning of few Ancient & Modern Sindhi Names :

Please note:
The list is not comprehensive. However, all names are derived from Sanskrit
Das (servant), Mal (Brave) Chand (belonging to vansh of mmo), Singh (Lion), Lal (Child)-Anand (happiness), Ram (Suffix as well as proper name), Raj (raj are derived from Raja. Proper name also), Kumar (bachelor, new suffix) Females have very few suffixes like Bai and Vanti
All these suffixes are added to the names as a mark of respect. Some are interchangeable like Ramchand can be addressed as Ramdas, but you can't call Kanyalal as Kanyadas.
In some names you can't add suffix as that becomes reluctant. Like Lokram, Radhesham etc.
Modern names have done away with suffixes. Prakash will not call himself Prakashchand and to call Sanjay Kumar will look odd..
Some male names can be easily changed by changing the last word 'a' to 'i' e.g. Kishna to Kishni, Rama to Rami. Female names when borrowed by males must have suffix to avoid confusion. Lakhmi is basically a female name and if a male wants it he should not mistake him as female.
Basic names meaning/derivation to be precise, we have tried to give meaning of basic names only.
Girdhar-Laj Foundation has been persistently researching at Badrinath, Hardwar, Jagananth etc. among Vahis of Pandas and have not been able to trace the record of all surnames. However, Research continues and it may be possible to retrive most of surnames in our second edition.
