SADHUBELA
Was one of the most
ancient places of worship. The temple was situated
in mid-stream of Sindhu river surounded by beautiful
and exciting natural scenes of Manik Hill. Sadhubela
is made of two words-Sadhu – i.e. Saint, Bela
i.e. jungle. This jungle was converted into a beautiful
place of worship a religious citadel of Hindu philosophy.
It was established by Swami Vankhandi Maharaj Udasin
in 1823. He was gifted with supernatural powers
on by Goddess Anapoorna. This Bowl was a diving
gifted with supernatural powers on account of his
sacrifice and devotion. He was blessed with a Bowl
(Kamandalu) by Goddess Anapoorna. This Bowl was
a divine gift Bowl. It brought prosperity to the
Mahant. This Bowl is now in the possession of the
present Mahant of Sadhu Bela Ashram at Bombay
Soon the fame of the meditating Swami Vankhandi
Maharaj spread all over the country. People of all
religious faith were attracted by the godliness
of Swamiji and sought his blessings.
The simple hut was reconstructed into a beautiful
temple in a few years. It became a seat of learning
and an abode of social and religious gatherings.
Sacred fire (Dhuni) burnt all the 24 hours and devotees
listened to discourses around the dhuni and received
spiritual inspiration.
Spiritually inclined
visitors drank deep from the discourses and discussions
and participated in the morning and evening aarti,
which was conducted on the bank of Sindhu facing
Sukhar town.
After Vankhandi Maharaj
(Udasin), Swami Harnamdas expanded Sadhubela’s
religious and educational activities. Sanskrit Pathshalla,
Library and School for desciples were started by
him. He also intoduced Yoga.
Millions were given in charity and were spent on
various good causes including free feeding (Langar)
to every one visiting the Sadhubela.
Swami Ganeshdas who succeded Swami Harnamdas, further
expanded the Sadhubela activities after the partition
at Mahalamxi, Bombay. He is the beacon light of
this huge institution which has earned fame far
and wide for its religious, cultural, social &
educational services. It is now a registered trust
functioning at Bombay
